Taking a strict note of the failure of Coca Cola company to file a reply for the third time to the petition filed by Shikha Monga, a Panchkula resident, seeking Rs 2.5 crore damages from the company for not arranging the promised dinner with actor Hritik Roshan, a local district court slapped a Rs 1,000 fine to the company.

Judicial magistrate KK Jain adjourned the hearing to September 1, following the company's request to grant them time to file the reply. Advocate Varinder Arora, who represents Coca Cola company, said, "We have sought some more time to file the reply."

Talking to HT, complainant's father Ravi Monga, said, "Since the company has failed to file the reply even on Monday after it had sought time for the same on previous two occasions, including August 11 and 18, the court has imposed a Rs 1,000 fine on the firm."

In 2000, the complainant was around 18 years old when she won a Coca Cola contest that promised a romantic dinner with actor Hrithik Roshan. Since the date never happened, now aged 33, Shikha, who felt cheated and mentally harassed, hopes to get justice from the Chandigarh district court.

The complainant has claimed that the contest was part of Coca Cola Limited's promotional programme in 2000 when Hrithik's movie "Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai" was released.

Prizes were announced at the back of the crown of the cola bottles. At tat time, the complainant was a student of Government College for Girls, Chandigarh, and had spent her pocket money buying cola bottles for the first prize, which she won on May 22, 2000.

When she claimed the prize at Coca Cola's marketing office in the city's Industrial Area, the manager offered her Rs 5 lakh instead, which she declined and insisted on the dinner date with Hrithik. But, the cola giant did not keep its word. The company did not reply to her letters either, forcing her to move the court in 2003.

She further complained of facing embarrassment among her friends and relatives as she was labeled as a liar. The court has put the soft drink major on notice as she seeks `2.5 crore in damages. Civil judge (senior division) KK Jain has issued the notice on a 12-year-old application by Shikha filed by her on June 6, 2003.
