The district administration last week sanctioned a budget of about Rs 12 crore to ensure that all its 24 villages have water supply.
The details of the project were shared by Sukhwinder Singh Pandher, executive engineer of water supply and sanitation department.
"All the 24 villages will get the water supply in the current financial year. These rural water supply schemes will be implemented in accordance with the government's plan to ensure clean drinking water and its regular supply. Each village will then have 70 litres of water per person."
"Twenty-four hour water supply has been provided to some villages under a pilot project. These schemes are being run with the assistance of water supply and sanitation committees established in the villages,"added Pandher.
According to him, 66 rural water supply schemes have been set up at a cost of Rs 19 crore 80 lakh in the Dera Bassi sub-division and seven villages of the district have been provided with sewerage systems and treatment plants.
