Doctors call off strike

The Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS) Association doctors called off their two-day strike after a meeting with health minister Madan Mohan Mittal at his residence here on Monday night. According to president of the association Dr Hardeep Singh, the strike was called off in public interest after the health minister assured them that their problems would be readdressed.

The Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS) Association doctors called off their two-day strike after a meeting with health minister Madan Mohan Mittal at his residence here on Monday night.

According to president of the association Dr Hardeep Singh, the strike was called off in public interest after the health minister assured them that their problems would be readdressed.

He said the minister assured them that all couple cases and other genuine cases would be considered for cancellation of transfer orders, adding that that no doctor would have to suffer.

Sources said the minister assured the association that the genuine problems of the doctors, including recent transfers, would be reviewed.

Managing director of the Punjab Health Systems Corporation Hussan Lal and director, health services, Dr Ashok Nayyar were present from the side of the health department.

From the association's side, Dr Gagandeep Shergill and Dr Hardeep Singh were present during the meeting.
