A 43-year-old woman suffered grievous injuries in an alleged robbery by the housemaid and the maid’s husband in Phase 4 here on Wednesday afternoon. The victim, Pritam Kaur, was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood in the bathroom by Ranjit Singh, the manager of Diamond Copy House, a paper-trading firm owned by her husband.
Pritam’s husband Satinder Pal Singh and the couple’s 20-year-old son Prabh Simran had left home for work barely an hour earlier. It was around 1.30pm that Ranjit came to drop home his bosses’ 14-year-old daughter after school.
Pritam, who was unconscious at the local Fortis hospital till the filing of this report late evening, was repeatedly hit on the head with a baseball bat by the alleged assailants, maidservant Pinki and her husband Raju, who ransacked the house and decamped with Rs 5,000 cash and some valuables, police said.
Pinki, who was employed by the family seven months ago and stayed in the house the entire day, and Raju, who used to pick her up after work each evening, have been booked for robbery and attempt to murder, but are absconding. Police said the couple hailed from Assam and stayed in a rented room in Industrial Area, Phase 8. It was Satinder who had got them the rented accommodation at a relative’s place.
“I got a call from my boss (Satinder) asking me to pick up his daughter from YPS (Yadavindra Public School) as she was not feeling well. As I dropped her home, she found the main gate locked so I called my boss. He tried calling his wife, but when she did not answer, he told me jump over the gate,” said Ranjit.
“On entering the compound I found that the doors were open. I walked in to find the house ransacked and my boss’s wife (Pritam) lying in a pool of blood in the bathroom,” he added.
Satinder told the police that he and his son had left the house around 12.30 pm, when Pinki was present in the house along with his wife Pritam.
According to the police, Raju arrived at the house immediately after and assaulted Pritam. Raju and Pinki then left the house after locking the main gate.
A mobile phone of the accused was last traced to Banur. City superintendent of police (SP) Harpreet Singh said, “We have sent teams to various places to nab the accused.”
