Double delight for Nishant, Calvin, Alisha

Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) trainee Nishant Dabas won the singles and doubles boys’ under-12 titles in the AITA Championship Series tennis tournament at Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) complex in Sector 10 on Friday.

After winning the doubles title on Thursday, Nishant defeated Krishan Hooda of CHART in a three sets to lift the singles title. In the first set Nishant took a 4-1 lead but Krishan came back strongly to win next five games to eventually wrap up the set in his favour 6-4. In the second set Nishant used good variation and took the set 6-3. In final set Nishant was very controlled and conceded only one game to win the under-12 title.

In the boys’ under-16 age category, top seed Calvin Golmei defeated Sabrang Sandal 6-4, 1-6, 6-0, to lift the singles title. Calvin won the first set 6-4 but in the second set Sabrang used variation to break Clavin’s rhythm and played some smart tennis to take the set 6-1. But Calvin raised his level in the final set and won without conceding a game to win the u-16 singles title.

Unseeded Alisha Menon upset top seed Ashpreet Kaur Bajwa to win the u-16 girls title. Alisha played steady game and used good variation to win in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

In the girls u-12 top seed Tanushitha Reddy defeated Nimrat Kaur Atwal of CLTA. In the first set both the players played evenly but in the second set Tanushitha dominated and won it without conceding a game.

Rajan Kashyap, CLTA patronin-chief, gave away the prizes to the winners.
