The police on Wednesday arrested Gaurav, 22, resident of Orissa, who allegedly kidnapped a 9-year-old girl in a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), Innova, from a Panchkula village and then later allegedly molested and tried to rape her.

On Tuesday night, the police had received a complaint from girl’s father, who is a vendor of eggs at Madanpur village, Sector 26 Panchkula, that a person, driving the SUV, forcibly took away the girl.

Following this, the police registered an FIR for kidnapping.

Sequence of events
As per father’s complaint, a SUV came up to them and asked for an egg omelette at about 8:15 pm on Tuesday. Then the driver asked them to guide him to the nearest liquor shop.

The father and girl reportedly sat in the vehicle while a brother of the girl was asked to look after the egg cart. After taking the liquor, the driver dropped the father at the cart but allegedly fled away with the girl at about 8:30 pm.

“Though there was no eyewitness but people have seen the father disturbed and looking for the girl,” said deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Panchkula, Ashwin Shenvi.

Around 9:15 pm, the police control room was informed about the incident.

The accused, Gaurav, works as a driver with a Gurgaon businessman. He had come along with him and his boss was staying at Bella Vista hotel, Sector 5.

In the night, he went out to have liquor. During this time the crime was committed. After kidnapping the girl he allegedly took her to the Bella Vista parking where they stayed for more than 3 hours.

As per the girl’s statement, she was given some sedatives after which she did not know what happened.

The driver dropped the girl at about 1:30 am on his own at the Sector 26-based Aashiana flats where the girl resides.

“Before leaving, he also gave the girl his phone number written on a piece of paper,” said Shenvi.

The police added section 376 and section 511(for attempt to rape) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused Gaurav. The police have also added protection of children against sexual offences act.
