The Punjab health department has suspended licences of 326 medico shops and cancelled two such licences during its drive to check illegal stocks of habit-forming and intoxicating drugs and their sale between August and September.

Also, 567 such cases are presently under trial in various district courts, a spokesman said here.
Punjab commissioner for food and drug administration Husan Lal held a review meeting with officials of his wing, taking stock of the situation to check the menace of supply of such habit-forming medicines freely to the vulnerable lot.

The commissioner directed drug control officials to direct all their agents to supply data, on a monthly basis, of habit-forming drugs being supplied to various dealers in Punjab and then each drug inspector shall check the data to ensure that the drugs were supplied only to licence holders, the spokesman said.
