The Election Commission of India (EC) on Friday directed the Haryana government not to display the photos of political functionaries on the beneficiary cards, electricity bills, construction site plaques, etc., after the model code of conduct was enforced for the ensuing Vidhan Sabha elections in the state.

The state chief electoral officer, Shrikant Walgad said beneficiary cards, construction site plaques, etc., erected during the enforcement of the model code of conduct, should not have photographs or messages of chief ministers, ministers and other political functionaries.

Similarly electricity bills, water bills, etc., to be generated after the enforcement of the model code should not contain any photographs or messages or symbols of political functionaries or parties, he said.

However, no change was required to be made in the photos of political functionaries on beneficiary cards, construction site plaques, etc., distributed or erected prior to the enforcement of the model code, he added.
