The Punjab government's advisory committee on education met for the first time on Friday. Education minister Sikander Singh Maluka chaired the meeting.

A government spokesman said four non-official members of the committee, Prem Mittal, Chatin Singh, Harpreet Kaur Mukhmailpura and Varinder Kaur Loomba, were present at this meeting. All members were asked to suggest steps to improve the education system in the state.

The members would visit schools in their respective areas to check whether various government schemes are being implemented, find out deficiencies, if any, and suggest remedial measures for better implementation.

The minister asked the committee members to give their suggestions so that appropriate measures could be taken to promote education throughout the state. The advisory committee will meet every three months.
