Keeping in view the increase in violence at government schools in the city of late, the UT education department has started the process to hire 87 counsellors to provide help to students. ile 40 counsellors will be hired for senior secondary schools, the rest will be for high schools.
As per information, the department on Thursday floated an e-tender to award contracts for outsourcing counsellors for various government schools. The last date for submission of tenders is November 11.
The department has fixed preferably post-graduation in psychology or child development for the post.
These counsellors will work to improve deteriorating teacher-student relationship and to wean away stress during examination days.
Besides, they will have to deal with individual cases to resolve their conflicts, identity problems, specific students concerns like language problem, substance use, grades, peer pressure etc.
They will meet parents and apprise them of child's development on regular basis.
They will also draft and implement school's counselling programme in areas such as ethnicity, health education, bullying, career development and areas.
Observing the behaviour of troubled students will also be part of their duty.
Department officials said the move to hire counsellors at government schools would help the administration to better understand the needs and problems of students.
"There has been a spate of violence among students in many schools. A proper counselling and guidance to is one of the ways to stop such incidents. We have begun the process to hire these counsellors," said a senior official.
As per the provision of the e-tender floated, the counsellors deployed through the service provider should be in the age group of 30-40 years.
