Education dept to promote classical music in govt school

In order to create awareness about classical music and dance among government school students, the education department will soon start special classes in these schools.

The department of cultural affairs in collaboration with the education department has invited applications for the empanelment of resource persons for imparting training in classical dance and instrumental music to students of local schools. The classes will preferably be held after schools timings.

An honorarium of `250 for the first hour and `175 for the subsequent hours subject to maximum of `12,000 per month will be paid to the resource artistes.
Interested persons can submit their bio-data in the office of director, cultural affairs in the UT Secretariat Building in Sector 9 before July 21.

Interviews will be held on July 24 at 10 am in the Government Museum and Art Gallery, Sector 10, Chandigarh.

The department officials said that the move would help promote Indian heritage among city students.
