The police have arrested eight members of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan(RMSA) teachers' union for holding a protest in Rupnagar on Sunday.
The police made these arrests after registering a case under Sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty),186(Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions),188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 283 (Danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) at city police station against 18 teachers including leaders of the union.
The union members against whom case was registered include Gurjant Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Hardeep Singh Todarpur, Babalpreet Singh Kurar, Jai Parkash, Rajinder Singh, Amit Jindar, Nirbhey Singh, Amardeep Singh, Balwinder Singh Lodipur, Ranbir Singh, union state conveners Pritpal Singh ,Dawood Alam ,Rajinder Singh and Atinderpal Singh, Amritsar district president Hardeep Singh, Gurdaspur president Gurpreet Singh and state committee member Ram Bhajan.
The arrested teachers include Gurjant Singh, Bhupinder Singh,Hardeep Singh Todarpur, Babalpreet Singh Kurar, Jai Parkash, Rajinder Singh, Amit Jindal and Nirbhey Singh. They were produced before court which sent them to judicial custody for 14 days.
