In a daring incident of chain snatching, two unidentified persons allegedly attacked an elderly man before fleeing with his chain in Phase 10 on Friday.

The incident occurred while Sham Lal, who is in his sixties, was entering his house. The two, who came on a motorcycle allegedly entered the premises, which also houses Lal’s grocery store, on the pretext of buying water from his wife —who was at the store — at around 3.15pm.

They then bought the bottle, inquired after Lal, and left the store. They stood near the house for nearly 10 minutes.

One of the two then climbed onto his motorcycle and waited while the other entered the shop again, spoke to Lal and hit him on his neck twice before fleeing with his 15-gram gold chain. The victim suffered minor injuries.

The victim’s family claims this was the second time in ten months a member of the family has been targeted.

A case has been registered at the Phase-11 police station in this regard.
