Four people, including two women, were arrested for the murder of an elderly man who had been reported missing since October 25. Police sources said the four abducted the deceased, identified as Krishan Lal Arora, 65, a resident of Sector 47, and robbed him of his gold ring before strangling him to death. They added the suspects, who were known to the victim, have been identified as Amit Kumar and his wife Suman, both residents of Sector 40, and Jitender Singh and Anita alias Ritu, both Sector 56 residents.
The police said the victim’s body was yet to be recovered. ASP (south) Urvija Goyal said Arora’s son, Shiv Kumar, filed a complaint with the police on October 25 saying that his father had not returned home. He added Shiv told them he suspected Amit and his wife, who are friends of his family, of being involved. The police filed a case of abduction and claimed that Amit, who is an auto driver, confessed to the crime.
Amit told the police that he, Suman and two other people, Anita and Jitender, conspired to kill Arora to get hold of his gold ring. He said on October 25 he picked up Arora from Sector 47 and took him to his friends’ house in Sector 40. He said the four of them forced Arora to get into a car and, after strangling him, threw his body into a canal near Kiratpur. The ring is yet to be recovered.
