The cracking down of the UT Estate office on the sector 17 traders for building violations and not putting up proper sign boards and hoardings, led to the snapping of electricity and telephone wires. The traders were left without any electricity till afternoon and in evening again a cut was imposed in sector 17.
The traders and shopkeepers said since morning they were struggling as the corridors were left blocked with the pulling down of the boards. Before starting the drive the electricity and the telephone wires were snapped and were restored in the afternoon. But in the evening again a power cut was imposed in sector 17 which left the traders hassled. The traders said they had to depend upon the generators and inverters the entire day.
Subhash Kataria the trader association president sector 17 said “ The drive was completely mismanaged. While removing the boards they even damaged the buildings. Some of the wiring was uprooted as a result even after the restoring the electricity by the department the fault could not be rectified in some of the shops.”
Another trader Rakesh Kumar said “ The wiring of the air conditioners was also damaged during the drive. The phone lines also could not be made functional till late evening.”
The sources in the UT electricity department said they kept getting calls from the traders in sector 17 throughout the day and in the evening demanding the restoration of the power.
