A day after Rakesh Lubana, a junior engineer (JE) with the Chandigarh administration, went missing after leaving behind a ‘suicide note’, he returned to his house at Mansa Devi Complex near here on Saturday morning.

Besides the note — in which he blamed his wife for his brother’s murder in 2010 and also named the SAS Nagar senior superintendent of police as well as a magistrate — he had left his mobile phone in his car outside his office in Sector 29, according to the police. On Saturday, he said, “I had gone to Golden Temple at Amritsar. There, I thought about my decision and my family, and decided to return home.” This was confirmed by Parvinder Singh, assistant superintendent of police (ASP), east.

Rakesh’s brother, Manoj Lubana, a Panjab University student leader, said, “We are glad that he has come back but he is not in a good condition and is still under depression.”

Sources in the police said Rakesh’s note appeared to be a bid to create pressure on the police. He had also been threatening his wife, it is alleged.

The burnt body of Rakesh’s brother, Suresh Kumar, was found in his car near Siswan village on the Mullanpur-Baddi highway in 2010. The accused, as per the probe, remain unidentified. The SSP only informed that a special investigation team (SIT) was on the job, and the probe was being monitored by the Punjab and Haryana high court.
