Transport minister and State Road Safety Council chairman Ajit Singh Kohar on Tuesday asked the school managements to implement road safety rules ensuring the safety of schoolchildren.
He was presiding over a meeting of senior officials of the transport department.
Expressing concern over the rise in road accidents involving school buses, Kohar directed the school managements to ensure that all their bus drivers followed the rules properly. He asked school managements to appoint staff to look after children outside their premises after the school.
Kohar suggested school managements to carefully select bus drivers after verifying their driving experience. He said anyone flouting these norms would be liable to face action.
He asked managements to constitute school-level transport committees.
