Suspecting his wife of infidelity, a Sector-21 resident allegedly stabbed his 35-year-old wife repeatedly in broad daylight at the Sectors 27-28 and 29-30 roundabout on Tuesday morning.
The accused, Ajay, has been arrested, and his scooter impounded.
The victim, Amritdeep Kaur Grewal, works for a company at the Rajiv Gandhi Information Technology Park.
In her complaint to the police, Amritdeep said her marital relations had turned sour as Ajay suspected her of infidelity, and they had been living separately for over a month.
She alleged that on Tuesday morning, she was on the way to her house in Kharar, when Ajay intercepted her near the roundabout, insisting on a conversation. Ajay was aware of her work schedule and the route she took to return home from her night job at the IT Park.
She agreed to talk and allowed Ajay to sit in her car, but soon an altercation ensued, and Ajay stabbed her 11 times in a fit of rage, the victim alleged.
Onlookers rushed to her rescue, while Ajay made good his escape. They informed the police, who took Amritdeep to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16.
But, she was then referred to PGIMER, where she underwent surgery.
The accused was later arrested and booked under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Police sources said the couple got married around 10 years back and had a nine-year-old son, who lived with Amritdeep.
