The UT health department is all geared up to launch the evening out patient departments (OPDs) at the Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector-16 (GMSH-16) from August 15. The hospital had first started evening OPD two years back but was unable to keep it functioning.
The OPD will be initially started in five specialties- medicine, paediatrics, gynaecology, orthopaedics and general surgery. In the first phase, the OPD will be set up at GMSH-16, following which it will also be started at Civil Hospitals in Sector 22 and Manimajra.
GMSH-16's joint medical superintendent Dr G Dewan said the UT administration had been pushing the hospital officials to start the evening OPD for the past couple of months.
While the normal OPD operates from 8am to 2 pm, the evening OPD will help people get health services during post-office hours as it would be operational from 4 to 7pm.
Dewan added that a separate team of doctors would be hired for the evening OPD, which would also include retired doctors from the UT health department.
