The UT health department is all geared up to launch the evening out patient departments (OPDs) at the Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector-16 (GMSH-16) from August 15. The hospital had first started evening OPDs two years back but was unable to keep it functioning.
The OPDs will be initially started in five specialties— medicine, paediatrics, gynaecology, orthopaedics and general surgery. In the first phase, the OPDs will be set up at GMSH-16, following which it will also be started at Civil Hospitals in Sector 22 and Manimajra.
GMSH-16’s joint medical superintendent Dr G Dewan said the UT administration had been pushing the hospital officials to start the evening OPDs for the past couple of months.
While the normal OPDs operates from 8am to 2 pm, the evening OPD will be operational from 4 to 7pm. Dewan added that a separate team of doctors would be hired for the evening OPDs, which would also include retired doctors from the UT health department.
