Puran Singh, former driver of Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan leader Mahesh Kumar Jha ‘Ashutosh Maharaj’, has again moved the Punjab and Haryana high court to get the spiritual leader’s body out of the freezer for autopsy and ask for a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) inquiry.
The sansthan doctors have certified that Ashutosh Maharaj, head of their Nurmahal-based dera, died clinically at 2.15am on January 29. The petition of his former driver is likely to come up for hearing on Thursday.
On February 24, when he had approached the high court earlier with a request for autopsy, the court had directed him to first use the remedy under the code of criminal procedure and approach the police station or senior superintendent of police concerned. Now he has pleaded that he did approach the state police but they have failed to take any action, so far.
His petition says that the sansthan management has kept Ashutosh’s body in a refrigerator illegally with an eye on the dera’s property worth 1,000 crore and only an autopsy can determine the cause of death and reveal if there was any case for further inquiry.
