Ex-PU prof, dean Gurdev Singh passes away

Former university instructions dean at Panjab University and professor emeritus at department of geography Gurdev Singh Gosal passed away here on Friday.

Born on April 1, 1927 in Goslan village of Ropar district in Punjab, Prof Gosal did his masters in geography from the PU (Lahore). He began teaching at Government College in Ludhiana, Punjab, in 1950 and joined the department of geography, Panjab University, Chandigarh, in 1959 and retired in 1987.

He also held many posts in Panjab University including dean university instruction, dean college development council and dean student welfare. The cremation was held at cremation ground in Sector 25.

A condolence meeting was organised at the university auditorium and the demise was mourned by the faculty, staff and students of the department. PU vice-chancellor Arun Kumar Grover, registrar AK Bhandari and senior officers of the university were also present in the condolence meeting. The V-C said his death was an irreparable loss.
