The MLAs surrendered today after Supreme Court had rejected the bail application of Jain on Thursday.

Earlier Punjab and Haryana high court had also rejected the anticipatory bail applications of both the MLAs on September 12.

The CBI had, on August 8, filed a charge sheet against former transport minister Jain, former chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) Zile Ram Sharma and Rajinder Sharma for abetment to suicide of Karam Singh which took place on June 7, 2011, though the allegations were of murder.

Karam Singh had given around Rs 12.5 lakh to Jain and Zile Ram for the recruitment of three people but they did not return the money when the jobs did not materialise. As per the CBI, Karam committed suicide due to this reason. The charge sheet said the both the MLAs lied during the polygraph test.

Jain is an independent MLA, while Zile Ram is a Congress legislator. When the allegations surfaced, Jain was the transport minister, while Zile Ram was the CPS and both had to resign.
