Members of the United Front of Ex-Servicemen (UFESM) on Monday declared that they would boycott defence minister Manohar Parrikar’s visit to SAS Nagar later this month and would show him black flags to protest against the delay in the implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme.

The minister is scheduled to visit the district on July 25 to inaugurate the Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (MBAFPI).

The Front had organised a ‘maha rally’ at the Dussehra Ground, Phase 8, in SAS Nagar on Monday to show solidarity with the former servicemen who have been sitting on a relay hunger strike since June 15 to press the government for the implementation of One Rank One Pension scheme.

“We defeated Pakistan, captured 93,000 prisoners and created a separate country (Bangladesh) in 13 days but the current government has not been able to implement the already approved OROP scheme, despite being in power for over 14 months”, said a veteran.

Members of the United Front of Ex-Servicemen highlighted that the draft government letter (DGL) for felicitating the implementation of the scheme was prepared in April 2014 but it was still lying as a draft.
