Following the HT report ('IAS officer reaps a rich harvest', May 24), the Punjab government on Thursday issued a notice to Patiala divisional commissioner Sucha Ram Ladhar and directed him to explain his position within two days.
Chief secretary Rakesh Singh took a serious note of the HT report and directed the personnel department to seek an explanation from Ladhar in a time-bound manner, government sources said. It is learnt that the government has directed Ladhar to explain as to how much money he had received as arbitration fee and under what government provisions/guidelines was he insisting upon payment of fee by the NHAI and landowners. "On Sunday, the case will be put up before chief minister Parkash Singh Badal for necessary action," a senior government functionary said.
It is learnt that the state government, after receiving Ladhar's explanation, is likely to direct him to deposit the amount he received as arbitration fee in the government treasury. "If required, necessary action against the IAS officer is not ruled out," said sources in the government.
