Chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Haryana government on Monday announced sops for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and employees, understandably in view of the forthcoming assembly polls and the Congress’ debacle in the Lok Sabha elections.

Hooda announced that all SC beneficiaries of the Indira Gandhi Drinking Water Scheme in the rural areas of the state would now get free water from May 1, 2014.

Besides, the state government has also written off their pending arrears amounting to Rs 61.42 crore up to April 30, 2014, under the scheme.

The chief minister on Monday said the decision would benefit more than 8.48 lakh SC beneficiaries.

No monthly charges would be levied on SC beneficiaries in the rural areas from May 1.

The Haryana government also revised the pay-scale of various categories of employees of agriculture and horticulture department, industrial training and vocational education department, government arts school, Rohtak, and government industrial training institutes.

The decision, according to official information, would benefit more than 4,000 employees.
