The director of nongovernment organisation (NGO) Theatre Age, Zulfiqar Khan, who was arrested on July 11 for having ‘unnatural sex’ with his students, has been kept in a separate cell in Burail jail, police sources have told HT.

The reason being touted for this special treatment is fear that the other inmates might assault the accused due to the ‘heinous’ nature of the crime and to ensure Khan’s security. Interestingly, at present he is appearing before court through video-conference with officials claiming he would be taken to court under special security, when the challan is filed in court

“There have been some reports that inmates could assault him as Khan’s crime has shocked and angered most of them. Thus, we are being cautious,” a jail official said.
