After banning hookah bars from the state, the drug control department of Haryana has now aimed at the tall claims made by cosmetic companies on the fairness creams and products that promise to remove acne and pimples.
In a campaign that started from Panchkula, the state drug control department seized four samples that included Lotus Company's advanced pimples and acne treatment kit, Neutrogena oil free acne wash, Lotus TT Clear: get rid of acne, blemishes, pimples and spots and Olay natural white day cream from Sharma Traders in Sector 4.
Haryana's assistant state drug controller Narender Ahuja Vivek said, "These products are manufactured under the licence of cosmetics but they claim to cure acne and pimples. Lotus company says they are offering a treatment kit, but treatment can only be done through drugs. It is a false claim. No cosmetics can claim that it can treat diseases severe skin conditions."
He added that these cosmetics could not make claims without checking the desired results.
On fairness creams, Vivek said, "Olay claims that it can make a person fairer but no one can change the colour of an individual's skin."
The department is now sending the samples for testing. "After receiving the report we will issue notices to these companies to either justify the claims or remove them," Vivek added.
He also said, "If the companies cannot justify the claim, permission could be withdrawn to manufacture them or they could be booked under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act."
