Acting on the Hindustan Times stories about the fake death certificate, the Punjab home department on Tuesday sought an explanation from Tarn Taran senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raj Jit Singh.
Principal secretary, home, DS Bains told HT, "We have sought the SSP's explanation on the basis of news reports about the case."
He said the Hoshiarpur deputy commissioner had sent a suo motu report to the chief secretary on this matter. "We will go through the DC's report and also write to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) to get details of the admission process of the SSP's daughter," said Bains.
Hindustan Times (August 10) had exposed how the SSP, in order to get an MBBS seat for his daughter in the terrorist-affected quota, had got issued a fake certificate stating that he had been killed in a terrorist encounter. The certificate was produced during counselling for MBBS admissions at the Faridkot-based BFUHS on August 7.
Hoshiarpur DC Varun Roojam, who had issued the fake certificate on June 25, had withdrawn it after the HT report and also suspended an official working in the relief and rehabilitation branch of the DC's office. He had also ordered an investigation into past two years' cases pertaining to certificates of terrorist-affected victims.
