Rakesh Bhandari’s family refused to accept his body on Tuesday in protest after his post mortem revealed that he did not commit suicide but was murdered and then thrown before the train.

Bhandari’s body was found near the railway track in Sector 19, here on Monday. According to his wife Priya’s statement before the Government Railway Police (GRP), her husband went out with his friend on Saturday evening.

She called him when he did not return till 11pm. Bhandari had told her then that he would come in half an hour.

When he did not come back, she called him again. This time, it appeared to her that he was running with a few people shouting and running behind him.

According to her, the killers had kept Rakesh’s body for a day before throwing it on the railway track.

“Five-six people including Bhandari had consumed liquor and had petty arguments. The statements of the people who were with him are being recorded. It has not been proved as yet that people were running after him as his wife has claimed,”said Raj Kumar, station house officer, GRP, Chandigarh.

A native of Ludhiana, Rakesh Bhandari was living in Baltana, Zirakpur. He had a furniture business.

His wife had informed the police on of his being missing on Sunday.
