With Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal crediting him for SAD-BJP combine's return to power, his son and deputy Sukhbir Singh Badal said on Monday that family name may be of help once but one has to deliver and it is the performance that ultimately matters.
"People will give opportunity to you once, with family name behind you, but ultimately that person has to perform. First time, one may get this advantage but second time you are judged by your performance," said Sukhbir in an interaction with media at Chappar Chiri near here where his 85-year-old father would take oath as chief minister for the fifth time on March 14.
Sukhbir tried to downplay the issue when asked when he would become the CM. "The whole of Punjab, the party and myself want that we should benefit from and take advantage of the vast political experience of the chief minister.
"Badal sahab is an institution, like a political university where we all have so much to learn from a person like him that even several MBA degrees won't help us as much as we stand to gain from his experience."
Asked about the possibility of early Lok Sabha polls, Sukhbir said, "They seem (like happening)."
"If you look throughout the country where elections have taken place recently, Congress has been wiped out. Their performance is so bad. I was talking to some top industrialists and investors and all of them want that there should be immediate change in the government," he said.
