A 17-member delegation of Punjabi farmers from Bhuj and Kutch in Gujarat on Monday called on Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to seek his intervention to resolve the issue of their legitimate ownership rights over the agricultural land ploughed by them for the past 40 years.

Expressing the plight of more than a thousand farmers, delegation member Surinder Singh Bhullar informed the chief minister that the Gujarat government was uprooting these farmers with a Punjab and Haryana origin under the Bombay Tenancy and Agricultural Lands (Vidarbha Region) Act, which was unjust and unreasonable as these farmers had developed the barren land of Gujarat into fertile one with their constant hard work and labour.

Despite having all legal and revenue documents, they were being denied the legitimate ownership rights over the agricultural land, he said.

Badal assured the members that he would take up the matter with his Gujarat counterpart Narender Modi and the BJP high command.
