Accusing the Chandigarh municipal corporation of harassing them by impounding their cattle 'wrongfully and forcibly', cattle-owners have moved court seeking directions to the MC officials and the mayor to release their cattle.

Atleast 10 cattle owners have filed a case against the MC and mayor Subhash Chawla before judicial magistrate Ashish Saldi. The case would come up for hearing on September 16, 2013.

The petitioners, including Sher Singh, Sonu, Balwinder, Dalbara Singh, Sandip of Faidan village, Chandigarh, have accused the MC workers of wrongly and forcibly taking around 40 milch cattle cows away.

Pankaj Chandgothia, on whose public interest litigation the cattle catching drive has been started, said, "The cattle owners were only trying to derail the process by filing such cases. They had no right to seek such a direction as they have failed to show licence to keep such cattle for dairy purposes."
