Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta) and Khet Majdoor Union today jointly staged dharnas at one dozen district headquarters, including Moga, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Bathinda, Muktsar, Faridkot, Fazilka, Gurdaspur and Amritsar in support of their long-standing demands and alleged anti-farmers policies of the central government.
Claiming this here, BKU (Ekta) general secretary Sukhdev Singh Kokri said that it was unfortunate that both the centre and Punjab government were not sincere toward the uplift of farmers, specially economically weaker sections and farm labour.
He also claimed that farmers were demanding waiving of crop loans, Rs 5 lakh claim to kin of farmers who had committed suicide and service to one family member of deceased, crop loan without any interest, remunerative prices for their produce according to Swaminathan Committee recommendations.
Kokri warned both the state and the centre that farmers would continue their struggle till their genuine demands were met.
