The farmers’ agitation against delayed lifting of wheat in Punjab has derailed the train services in the region as eight trains were cancelled and nine diverted on Tuesday, putting passengers to inconvenience.
Making an appeal to the protesting farmers not to use rail tracks for agitations, general manager, northern railway, AK Puthia said: “Railways is the backbone of the nation and it should be spared from agitations. Rail connectivity should not be hampered for local issues.”
The Amritsar-Nangal Dam Express, Amritsar-Ambala Passenger Train, Amritsar-New Delhi Shatabdi, Akal Takht Express, Amritsar-Shri Ganganagar Intercity Express, Chandigarh-Amritsar Intercity Express and Delhi–Ferozepur Express were cancelled on Tuesday.
The railways also diverted the Amritsar-Nanded-Sachkhand Express, Amritsar-Katihar Express, Amritsar-Bandra Paschim Express, Amritsar-Dadar Express, Amritsar-Haridwar Janshatabdi, Pathankot-Delhi Express, Shri Ganganagar- Rishikesh Intercity Express, Katra-Ahmedabad Express and Jammu Tawi-Tatanagar Express on Tuesday.
