Following medical complications, a father whose 12-year-old daughter was raped by an elderly man in Khai village while she was returning home from school was admitted to a nursing home in Ratia on Thursday.

Dr Ranjit Kaur, who is attending on him, said the patient was suffering from severe depression and had complained of high blood pressure, dizziness and gastric pain. "We have asked him to undergo some tests," the doctor said.

Talking to mediapersons, the rape victim's father claimed that he had been receiving threats to his life since the day he reported the incident and sought action against the culprit. "Several members of the panchayat, including sarpanch Jai Singh, who tried to hush up the matter by offering me a few thousand rupees, are now threatening to eliminate me. Even after bringing this to the notice of the police, I have not been provided security," he said.
