A 10-month-old child and her father died after a train hit them near Barara railway station on late Wednesday night.The infant died on the spot, while her father, who received serious injuries, succumbed at PGIMER, Chandigarh, on Thursday morning.
Locals informed that Gurdev Colony Barara resident Jhujhar Singh (32) was seen sitting on the tracks with his daughter, Manpreet, on late Wednesday night. They said by the time officials from the nearby Railway Protection Force (RPF) post could save them they were hit by an approaching train.
They said the victim had parked his motorcycle near the tracks. Residents pointed out that Jhujhar was a labourer and was living separately from his wife. They said his wife had come to his house on Wednesday evening and after an altercation she left the child with him. They said he was under depression after that.
Post in charge Sanjeev Kumar said that he along with his team had reached the spot immediately after the incident and had rushed the victim to the Cantt civil hospital, from where he was referred to PGIMER, where he succumbed.
