In the Jyoti murder case, victim's father Butti Ram on Wednesday stood by his statement which he gave to the police earlier.
He informed the court that his daughter Ishu had told her about the relationship of Jyoti and Doon MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary and that she wanted to marry him. He said Chaudhary had refused to marry her as she was a Dalit.
Jyoti, 24, was found dead, her head smashed, by the side of the road at Sector 21 in Panchkula, on November 22, 2012.
Butti Ram also identified Chaudhary in the court as well as in the picture taken at Ishu's wedding.
During the cross-examination, when Chaudhary's counsel AS Sukhija asked about another person present in the picture, Butti Ram replied that he was a relative of Ishu's husband. But Ishu had said that he was Chaudhary's driver. He also could not tell about the wedding date of Ishu.
The defence counsel also asked questions on the death of Butti Ram's son, where he revealed that he had gone to the high court for registration of an FIR for murder in 2006 and later the police filed cancellation the report and termed his allegations as false.
Butti Ram had earlier turned hostile in the case on December 23, 2013. But on January 15, he submitted before the court that he was extremely terrorised and frightened because of Chaudhary and prayed for recording his statement again. Then on February 1, he was allowed to record the statement again.
Another important witness who appeared in the case on Wednesday was Sumeet alias Simmi, around 25-year-old. He replied in the negative when asked about the affair with Jyoti and that he ever wanted to marry her. He told the court that he met Jyoti at his aunt's wedding at Amritsar and they had been in touch.
When the defence counsel told him that his paternal aunt is married to the maternal cousin of Butti Ram, so Jyoti was his cousin, he could not say anything. He told the court that Jyoti had informed her that Chaudhary had been helping her.
The SMSes recovered from Jyoti's mobile phone pointed to the relationship between her and Simmi.
