Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) demanded facilities at the campus for the security of female students studying at the university on Tuesday.
In a memorandum submitted to dean, students’ welfare (DSW), Navdeep Goyal, PUCSC has asked the university to appoint a security guard at library during the night.
It also demanded washrooms for women at the library.
“Many female students could be seen studying at library during the night. There must be female security guard for their safety.
Girls are also facing problems because of lack of toilets and washrooms at the library which should already have been in place,” said president Chandan Rana.
Claiming that public washroom at the student centre was in a shambles, the PUCSC demanded its renovation.
Rana said that university should provide washing machines at men’s hostels, while the old machines at girls’ hostels should be replaced.
“During the programme, ‘ PUCSC at your door step’, we found that there are only three washing machines at the nine girls’ hostels. Some of them are not working properly,” he said adding that residents of boys’ hostels should also be provided with washing machines.
Rana claimed that dean, students’ welfare, had agreed to consider all their demands in the memorandum.
