Residents of Sectors 12 and 14 are a happy lot as the areas have largely benefited from the Swachh Bharat campaign.
The inner areas of Sector 12A, where houses of Haryana’s VIPs such as Savitri Jindal and other IAS officers are located, wear a clean look. One would be hard pressed to spot garbage outside their houses. But, the open ground behind these houses is in a sorry state as sweepers dump garbage collected from the all over the sector, here.
Though it is not a designated dumping point, there are two corporation bins on the ground. Making things worse, the ground has become home for strays. So, residents avoid going near the dustbins and instead dump waste on the ground. The park near the ground is also quickly turning into a dump yard.
Councillor Lilly Bawa said, “I tried to get these dustbins removed from the ground, but the residents tend to dump their garbage there.” Sector 12, which also falls under Bawa’s ward, was a fairly clean sector to start with. However, the residential area has been beautified now.
According to the residents, the cleanliness drive has led to the improvement.
They say sanitation workers regularly collect garbage from homes in the morning, and clean the roads in the inner parts of the sector. Sector 14 has also benefited from the campaign as the once-filth-ridden area is a much healthier and cleaner environment now, according to residents.
Resident Ravi Prasad also echoed the view.
