Panjab University (PU) will take final decision on the proposed fee hike for the academic session 2015-16 in the syndicate meeting to be held on January 21.
The committee constituted by the vice-chancellor had recently unanimously recommended 5% fee hike subjected to a minimum of Rs 500 and maximum of Rs 1,500 for all courses of the university teaching departments and its regional centers.
The committee also recommended levying of Wi-Fi charges at the rate of Rs 30 per month from the university students wherever the facility is made available. This amount will be used for maintenance and upgradation of Wi-Fi, intranet and IT infrastructure.
Though the student bodies have objected to the proposed fee hike, the university authorities have termed it as marginal increase that would not affect the students from economically weaker section (IWS) as university is already offering many schemes to such students.
Besides, an additional provision of Rs 75 lakh has been provided to means-cum-merit based tuition fee support to poor and needy students.
The last revision of fee was done in May earlier this year after a gap of six years. The syndicate will also take decision on the introduction of a subject, domestic violence against women and children, as a separate compulsory qualifying paper.
The recommendations of the committee constituted by the vice-chancellor for finalising the intellectual property right (IPR) policy of the university will also be tabled in the meeting.
The centre for industry institute partnership programme (CIIPP), PU, has formulated IPR document with an aim to provide guidance to researchers of the university, visiting scientists and outside agencies involved in collaborative work.
