Football tourney: YPS, Patiala lifts trophy

Yadavindra Public School, Patiala, lifted the trophy of All India Sant Singh Memorial Soccer Tournament for Boys by defeating Assam Valley School, Assam on the premises of Pinegrove School, Dharampur, on Saturday night.

The match commenced on a cautious but aggressive note with each side not willing to give any chance whatsoever to their opponents. One attack from the YPS lads was met with equal resistance by the Assam boys. No team could score a goal in the stipulated time and the match went into extra time.

The YPS lads regrouped and mounted pressure on the defence of their opponents spearheaded by Harnoor, who scored the winning goal for the Patiala boys.

The best defender award was given to Manjot Singh of YPS, Patiala, and Gaurav Narkar from BK Birla Education Centre, Pune, won the best upcoming player award.

Sukhmanjot Singh from YPS, Patiala, was adjudged as the best goalkeeper of the tournament. The highest scorer award went to Gurkaran Singh from Pinegrove and the best player of the tournament award was taken by Tachang Yang of Assam Valley School.

RC Robinson, headmaster of Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, who was the chief guest, gave away the prizes. He congratulated the winners and all participating teams for making the tournament a success.
