Forests dept identifies 9,800 hectares for plantation

The Punjab forests department has identified 9,800 hectares in villages all across Punjab for plantation to achieve greater area under the green belt. Besides, 3,021-hectare area for the purpose has been found within the premises of institutions, aspokesman here said.

The Punjab forests department has identified 9,800 hectares in villages all across Punjab for plantation to achieve greater area under the green belt.

Besides, 3,021-hectare area for the purpose has been found within the premises of institutions, aspokesman here said.

The said areas were identified during a survey in an effort to increase the state's "forest cover", forest and wildlife minister Surjit Kumar Jayani here stated.

The department has a target of increasing the state's forest cover that mainly included the trees outside forests up to 15% by 2020 underits 'Greening Punjab' mission, the minister said.
