Congress heavyweight former MLA Bhart Singh Beniwal, whose hopes for a party ticket from Ellenabad were dashed, jumped ship to Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) in the presence of HLP senior vice-president Gobind Kanda, on Monday.
Notably, Congress leader and former MLA Maniram Keharwala also quit the party on Sunday.
According to sources, many from the party who are disappointed over ticket distribution may soon quit the party.
Sirsa MLA Gopal Kanda's new political outfit HLP is proving to be a new shelter for disappointed leaders.
The HLP, which is contesting from all 90 segments, has been strengthened by Beniwal's joining.
Bharat Singh Beniwal had expressed anger against Congress state president Ashok Tanwar for denying him the Ellenabad ticket and instead giving it to newcomer Ramesh Bhadu, at a press meet recently.
His defection to Gopal Kanda's party came as a shock to Tanwar. Beniwal's niece Ajeet Beniwal is also campaigning for Gopal Kanda.
With Beniwal, who has a strong hold in Ellenabad, joining the HLP, the picture in the assembly segment would appear changed. The HLP seems to be a new hurdle for INLD's Abhay Chautala and BJP's Pawan Beniwal.
