Former head of endocrinology department at PGIMER delivers oration in Madurai

Former head of endocrinology department at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, Dr RJ Dash delivered the '1st Prof GK Rastogi Memorial Oration' at the inaugural conference of the endocrine society of Tamil Nadu and Puduchery and Hormones, 2013, at Madurai.

Former head of endocrinology department at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, Dr RJ Dash delivered the '1st Prof GK Rastogi Memorial Oration' at the inaugural conference of the endocrine society of Tamil Nadu and Puduchery and Hormones, 2013, at Madurai.


He deliberated on 'evaluation of endocrinology and challenges of modern endocrinology in India'.

Interestingly Prof Rastogi was the founder head of endocrinology department at PGIMER. He served from 1964-1978. He laid the foundation of endocrinology in India, developed the first radioimmunoassay (RIA) laboratory for hormones and the DM programme in the specialty.

Madurai was his final resting place in 2006 during the second endocrinology alumni meet. "In PGIMER's 50th anniversary year, institution of this oration brings laurels to our institute," Dr Dash said.

Prof Dash is the 1st DM in endocrinology in India. He is the recipient of BC Roy National Award for developing endocrinology as a specialty in India. During the year, he has been bestowed with Prof BB Tripathy Memorial Oration award, has received felicitations by Endocrine Society of Sri Lanka and Rajiv Gandhi Centre of Endocrinology at Aligarh Muslim University for his contribution to endocrinology in India.
