Former Punjab lokpal Justice DS Dhaliwal (retd) died here on Friday following a prolonged illness.
His family said on Saturday that the 78-year-old breathed his last at his residence. He is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.
Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has expressed grief over the demise. In a statement, Badal described Justice Dhaliwal as a legal luminary and eminent jurist besides an able administrator.
The chief minister recalled the distinguished services rendered by Justice Dhaliwal during his tenure as lokpal.
Dhaliwal was cremated with full state honours here on Saturday, an official spokesperson said. Justice TS Dhindsa, judge, Punjab and Haryana high court, laid a wreath on the body on behalf of the acting chief justice of the high court, Punjab lokpal Justice JS Sekhon (retd) on behalf the office of lokpal, while lokpal secretary Deepinder Singh laid a wreath on behalf of the state government.
Retired and serving judges, senior bureaucrats and police officers from the Punjab government and UT administration paid their last respects to Justice Dhaliwal.
