Four held for assaulting cop

Local police arrested four youths for assaulting a head constable Parminder Singh, who was on duty at in Sector 78 on Tuesday night.

The accused all in their early 20’s have been identified as Amritjot Singh, Jagtar Singh, Hardeep Singh, all residents of Bhagomajra village; and Gagandeep Singh, a resident of Manak Majra village.

Investigation officer Jagir Singh said, “On Tuesday late night, when Parminder signalled them to stop the car at naka they started abusing and even assaulted him and fled from spot. They were arrested when they came back to beat the policeman again.

A case against all four of them was registered at the Sohana police station under Section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of duty), 294 (obscenity) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

When the police on Wednesday produced them before the magistrate, they were flanked by their friends, who had altercation with a photo-journalists present outside the court complex.

The police reached the spot and detained three of them, including sarpanch of Bhagomajra, while the others managed to flee.
