Four held for making obscene gesture at women cops

The Division Number 5 police arrested four youths for making obscene gestures at women cops on Saturday.

The accused have been identified as Simranjit Singh, Manpreet Singh, Harvinder Singh and Manpreet Singh of Thakkarwal village. All are in their early 20s.

Inspector Beant Juneja, SHO Division Number 5 police station said four youths participating in a procession in a tractor-trolley near Bharat Nagar Chowk made indecent gesture towards two women constables walking on the road. The cops immediately informed me about the incident, following which we stopped the tractor-trolley near Jagraon Bridge.

Juneja said the women constables were undergoing training at Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur. They were on duty in Ludhiana to maintain traffic, law and order situation in the city on Saturday.

A case under section 354-D (showing indecent gesture towards women), 294 (obscene acts and songs), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC has been registered against the accused in this context.
