Four held with stolen two-wheelers, mobiles in Ludhiana

All accused are matric pass and their age ranges between 22 and 27. They are unemployed and used to steal valuables and sell them at cheaper rates, say police.

The Dugri police have arrested four people for committing snatchings and thefts and recovered six stolen two-wheelers, 12 mobile phones and sharp-edged weapons from them.

The accused were identified as Sunder Singh alias Vinay of Karnail Singh Nagar, Kuldeep Kumar of Moti Bagh Colony in Phullanwal (Ludhiana), Arun Joshi alias Sonu of Hargobind Nagar and Harpreet Singh alias Sagar of Dhakka Colony.

Addressing the media here Wednesday, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Jaskiranjit Singh Teja said Kuldeep Kumar was arrested on Wednesday while Harpreet, Arun Joshi and Sundar were arrested on Tuesday, Saturday and Friday, respectively. 

ADCP Teja said, “Kuldeep was arrested on Wednesday following the interrogation of Sundar, who has been sent to judicial custody. and a wrist watch, a silver chain, a silver bangle (kadah) and a sharp- edged weapon were recovered from him.” Kuldeep would be producted in a court on Thursday, the ADCP said.

A case under sections 379B (snatching) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC was registered against Sundar on Friday. 

Arun Joshi was arrested on Saturday and four Activa scooters and a motorcycle were recovered from him. A case was registered under sections 379 (theft) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the IPC.

Arun Joshi and Harpreet Singh have been in police custody and being interrogated.

Teja said Arun hailed from a business family as his elder brother was earlier running a hosiery factory, but now they had lost everything in gambling. 

He added Harpreet was arrested on Tuesday and an Activa scooter, 12 mobile phones and a sharp-edged weapon were recovered from his possession. A case was registered under against him under Section 379B (snatching) , 411 of the IPC.

“All the accused are matric pass and their age ranges between 22 and 27. They are unemployed and used to steal valuables and sell them at cheaper rates,” the ADCP said. 

The ADCP said the police had traced around 18 incidents of thefts and snatchings committed by these accused in the city, mainly in Model Town, Dugri and Sarabha Nagar in past two-and-a-half months. “We are checking their past records and will also confirm the involvement of more persons with them in the crime,” he said.
