Providing relief to vehicle owners for getting High Security Registration Plates (HSRP), the SAS Nagar administration, on Thursday, decided to open four new counters at the District Soil Conservator office near the Dara Studio.
The location is also in front of the Truck Union office in Phase-6, SAS Nagar.
The setting up of the plates will continue at the present venue, which is the Phase-8, bus stand. With this, vehicle owners have to spend only 20 minutes to get their work done.
SAS Nagar deputy commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said that the decision was taken after several complaints were received from the vehicle owners over long queues.
Till now, vehicle owners had to make a trip to the Phase -8 office near the bus stand to get the HSRP affixed after submitting their fee at the district transport office.
Now, vehicle owners can submit their fee and also get the HSRPs fitted on their vehicles at the new fee counters.
The district transport office, SAS Nagar, has started affixing high-security registration plates (HSRP) of PB-65Y series. For the old vehicles, the authority is already affixing the plates from the from A to P series.
However, the authorities have not issued any directions to the police for challaning vehicles without these plates. The DC added that awareness drives were being conducted through different mediums such as advertisements and road-safety drives with the help of the traffic police. “People should take the initiative for the registration of high-security registration number plates for their vehicles.
We will be completing the task by August, as per the deadline given by the Supreme Court,” the DC said.
